I noticed a lot of my files are set to Architectural unit type and Inches for units. I typically work in Decimal unit type/Feet and the scale pull-down I have set to unitless. I do not recall selecting anything other than Imperial when setting-up my project. So Imperial must be assuming Architectural, Inches for units by default?
