This information is available in AutoPlant Read Me file, upgrading project section. Below is section from SS4 Read me:
V8 2004 (v8.6) and XM (v8.9) Project Upgrades
All pre-V8i legacy projects must be upgraded to V8i (SELECTseries 4) using the From Base Template option found by right-clicking a project within Project Administrator V8i (SELECTseries 4).
This project upgrade must be carried out before any project work is undertaken using the V8i (SELECTseries 4) applications.
Opening a V8 2004 or XM project with the V8i (SELECTseries 4) applications without the project being upgraded has not been certified.
Start Project Administrator V8i (SELECTseries 4)
Select the pre-V8i project
Right-click and pick Upgrade > From Base Template
Or go to File > Upgrade > From Base Template
Project Administrator will now upgrade the selected project to allow work to be undertaken using Bentley I&W V8i (SELECTseries 4)
Note: To complete the upgrade you must update the Project.mdb link tables as follows:
Open the upgraded project via Data Manager or I&W.
From the pull-down menu pick Tools > Database Tools.
Select the option to Check and Update Link Tables as below
