We are using Openplant Modeler V8i (selectseries 6) Version 08.11.11.304. I and other designers in my workplace have difficulties to gererate bill of material from pipelines. We know and can generate excel from reports and BOM by line Number. But this way of doing things is complicated, and it takes lots of time. We need to sort excel file, change all other than pipe components lengts to 1, and then generate pivot table. Then we have to modify that pivot table so, that it only shows components in lines which we want to show. After that we still need manually to chech every line from pivot table and isometric drawing, that lenght and quantities of components are same. Because many times bill of materials from our excel report and BOM from isometric drawings have differences.
Even then, we still need manually to add all supports to bill of materials, because we can't generate BOM from supports, which shows line number of individual support.
And we need to get BOM only from pipelines we want to show, and not all lines in model. We design new pipelines to our plant models, and then we need fast and reliable way to show BOM of those lines, so that we can add BOM from multiple lines to our reques for quotations, which we send to our contractors. And this BOM should have all same components as our Isometric Drawings.
So I suggest this, that you add BOM-button to Openplant Isometric manager window. And with that button, you can choose which lines you generate BOM. And this BOM shows all sama components, gaskets and supports in same way as Isometric drawigns generated from same Pipeline manager show.
Maybe there is already this kind of tool in Openplant. I'm hoping for it. But if there isn't, I hope that Bentley will add it. It makes user experience better, and then also simplier plant designers like me can generate BOM's from pipelines. :)
