Best practice on rearranging project files' contents

Hi!

I'd like to ask for some tips, tricks, solutions on rearranging contents for my project files.

Situation:

I started working on a project months ago, considering only the 3D aspect of an existing plant, based on a solid model we made a few years back. I have no knowledge on plant design or mechanical engineering, so I had to figure out things along the way. I managed to find out some of the units, so I separated the project into different files based on these. Since then I also found that there are certain pipelines that connect the units (eg. steam collecting pipes).

Problem:

With the current unit-based setup, OPM doesn't recognize connecting pipes as connecting, they only have open-end at that spot, which is not true to the existing plant.

Question:

How should I rearrange the files: based on service/contained material or make one that contains everything?

But the biggest question is how CAN I?

I tried a few things but those weren't working:

- Copying the equipment between files, they are renamed and loose the nozzle setups. Importing the setups from xml throws unhandled exception if more than 1-2 nozzles are in the list.

- Using MicroStation to merge the references also wont work, because opening Pipeline Manager in OPM throws fatal error on seemingly every joint (I stopped clicking after around 50).

What is best practice in this situation?

Best Regards,

Csaba Szabo
